RE: Does a Market Exist for Personal Drivers?

There is a market. It is high end, though, celebrities and such. And you'd need a commercial license and physical.
Another market is ferrying RVs. I know of a fellow in Detroit who makes a pretty good living at it. He flies to the location and drives the unit to another location, sometimes completing sales transactions too.

RE: Hurricane Ike evacuation

I looked in on the Texas Parks web site the other day and found a link to photos of the damage to Galveston Island State Park. How sad! I had a nice stay there last February. It looks as though they'll have to perform miracles to have it open this winter.
Sea Rim too. I think it took an even bigger hit.

RE: cb antenna

Better would be a so-called trunk lid mount, which is a metal "L" that screws into the side structure of the body next to the trunk (or in your case hood) lid. It is postitioned so it goes away from the opening. Three screws hold it to the metal. They are drilled sideways into the edge of the fender metal. Coax is routed in through the space between hood lid and fender to the firewall and through any of the many plugs of rubber-like material in the firewall to the inside and to your radio. One source of the parts is Larsen, which also sells the best antennas you could use, based on 40-some years of experience with them and others. Part numbers are NMO-K for the mount and coax, NMO27C (chrome) or NMO27B for black, and that'll solve your problems with no holes and an anatenna system that won't break without violence on your part.

RE: Help with conversion..

I did mine using Sauder Furniture modular do-it-yourself cabinets and a little table. Took out the two second-row seats to gain the space for it all. Added an Engel real chest-type refrigerator/freezer. It works off of 12 or 120 volts. PortPotti under the microwave and the shelf of stuff on the table, hidden by a drape. All works well and won't take a major construction job. Plastic tubs and containers can solve all your storage problems.
Good luck!

RE: Batwing Ant

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but just found the thread again. Steve shows the Wineguard manual, so that'll take care of the hole and such details. Being a dipole-style antenna, it doesn't need any metal ground plane. Your biggest challenge will be structural, with the new top the B has. I'd find a place that allows putting some sort of plate of metal or plywood under the mount to give it some strength. That's going to be the biggest challenge.
You might want to go back to the manufacturer of the B and see where they put them or if their customer relations has a suggestion.
Good luck and good viewing.

Describe what a bat wing antenna is and where you want it and I'll try.

RE: bug screens

I have four purchased from J.C. Whitney many years back. They are cut to shape for the front windows of the van and have extra space at the bottoms to accomodate the push-out windows of the rear doors. They are rimmed with the strip magnet stuff, double sewed. They hold well enough that I forgot one was still in place once and drove 100-plus miles with it on the outside of the passenger front door. It stayed there at speeds of 70 miles an hour or so.
Alas, I don't find them in the latest Whitney catalog.

RE: Water Pump knocks

Have room for an accumulator tank along side the pump? That usually will cure the air in the system problem.

RE: Changing a Family Traditon

It's a community-wide tradition in Louisiana. My late wife and I discovered and enjoyed a marvelous Thanksgiving weekend a few years back watching the folks having so much fun at Chicot State Park, near Ville Platte, LA. The place was filled with music and dancing and pots cooking and people enjoying themselves the way no one did who stayed at home, I'll betcha.

RE: Downsizing

I downsized from a 32 foot Class A. Found the plusses easily outweighed the negatives. As suggested here, re-thinking what you "really" need helps. Then, when you get all the nooks and crannies in the "B" filled, you might do as I did and add a little rolling closet.

RE: Walmart or Sam's Fuel

On a trip from Arkansas to Colorado and back last month, I found several Walmart Supercenters in western Kansas and eastern Colorado that have closed their gasoline stations. Sign on the cashier's cage saying "Closed" and that's all.

RE: Opinions needed on "best" cell phone provider for RVing

Alltel works flawlessly for me. I have a package that dates back several years with mostly fixed cost for X number of minutes for roaming, cell-to-cell and weekends that I have never yet exceeded. Makes for a very satisfying service.

RE: Battery charging

I add a vote for the BatteryMinder. Have two on Group 27 batteries that back up essential radio/satellite gear, and the spare for RVing. They work quite well and sure do save battery life over some of the others recommended here. The Walmart/Schumacher one failed me first year of use. Fried the battery it was hooked to while we were away for the winter.

RE: Problems with AC compressor when running generator

Sounds as though you don't have enogh generator output to run the air conditioning. And trying to with less than required power can damage the AC.
You need to find the rating for the generator (2 KW, etc.) and the AC (how many watts needed to run) and make sure the genset is rated for higher than the AC needs. Solution if it isn't is a more powerful generator.
